MyCase MCP

Search and retrieve MyCase data directly from Claude. Ask questions, pull documents, and view firm financials. Read-only by design and fully governed by your existing MyCase permissions, you can move faster knowing your data is protected.

What is MyCase MCP?

MyCase MCP is the first official Claude MCP connector for MyCase. Built and supported by 8am, it gives Claude direct, permission-based access to your firm’s case records. Included at no extra cost on all MyCase plans, there are zero setup fees, per-seat charges, or separate subscriptions required for your firm.

Streamline Your Workflows in a Single Conversation

With 73 actions supported across core areas like cases, clients, documents, billing, and intake, gathering case data becomes completely conversational.

Here are the primary workflows you and your staff can handle directly through Claude:

  • Pre-Call Case Prep: Request a complete case summary, view open tasks, and append a note for your next meeting in a single prompt.

  • Document Retrieval: Instantly get a direct download link for any file in your case records without navigating deep folder structures.

  • Lead Status Check: Pull up full background details and the current status of a specific prospect before you follow up.

  • Invoice Tracking: Quickly check the payment status and history for any case your firm is handling.

  • Case Timeline: Pull all events, tasks, notes, and documents linked to a matter in chronological order for a fast briefing.

Keeping Your Firm's Data Secure

Because your firm handles sensitive client information, trust accounts, and confidential records, MyCase MCP is built to give you control and visibility over how AI interacts with your data:

Permission Inheritance

Every action Claude takes inherits your users' existing MyCase permissions. If an attorney or staff member cannot access a case or billing data inside MyCase, Claude will not expose it to them either.

Read-Only

At this time, MyCase MCP limits the connector to looking things up in MyCase — cases, documents, calendar, billing, and more — without ever creating, updating, or changing a record.

In the future, MyCase may release certain write-capable skills with appropriate safeguards to assist with compliance.

Connecting Claude to MyCase

Part 1: How to Connect

What you'll need

  • An active MyCase account

  • An active Claude Team or Enterprise account*

  • Claude installed on your desktop

  • About two minutes

No technical knowledge required.

Step 1: Find MyCase in the Claude Marketplace

  1. Open Claude on your desktop.

  2. Click the Marketplace icon in the left sidebar.

  3. In the search bar, type MyCase.

  4. Click Install on the MyCase connector.

Step 2: Connect your MyCase account

Once you click install, Claude will walk you through a quick authorization:

  1. Click Connect to MyCase when the prompt appears.

  2. A browser window opens. Sign in to MyCase using your normal username and password.

  3. A screen will ask you to confirm what Claude can access and that you accept the Terms of Service. Click Allow.

  4. The browser closes and Claude shows a "MyCase connected" confirmation.

Step 3: Start asking questions

Once connected, just type your question in Claude the same way you'd ask a colleague. You don't need any special commands.

A few examples to get started:

  • "What are the open tasks on the Hernandez matter?"

  • "What's the current status of the Miller case?"

  • "How many billable hours did we log on the Davis matter last month?"

* Connection is open to Claude Team and Enterprise accounts. This ensures that Commercial Terms apply, and your data is kept confidential and not used to train Claude. Individual plans lack these protections. Because MyCase MCP involves client data, we require a commercial account to protect confidentiality and privilege.

Part 2: What Claude Can Do with MyCase

Claude can look up information from your MyCase account and bring it directly into your conversation. Here's what's available:

Cases and matters

Ask about any active case — status, assigned staff, key dates, linked contacts, and recent activity.

  • "What matters are open for Johnson & Associates?"

  • "Who is assigned to the Carter case?"

  • "Show me all matters in the Discovery stage."

Tasks

Get a quick view of what's overdue, what's coming up, or what's assigned to a specific person or matter.

  • "What tasks are overdue on the Patel matter?"

  • "What do I have due this week?"

  • "Are there open tasks on the Rodriguez file?"

Contacts

Look up clients, opposing counsel, or any contact in your MyCase directory.

  • "What's the phone number for Maria Chen?"

  • "Which matters is David Park connected to?"

  • "Find the contact record for Nguyen Law Group."

Billing and time entries

Check hours, fees, and invoice balances without running a report.

  • "What's the outstanding balance on the Thompson invoice?"

  • "Pull time entries for the Davis matter from last month."

  • "What were the total billable hours across all matters in June?"

Notes and activity

Catch up on a case before a call or meeting.

  • "What happened on the Thompson matter last week?"

  • "Show me the most recent notes on the Miller case."

  • "What was the last activity logged on the Carter file?"

What Claude Cannot Do

Claude can look up information in MyCase — it cannot create, edit, or delete anything. It won't add notes, log time, create tasks, or change any records.

If a result looks incomplete, it reflects what's in MyCase and what your account is permitted to see. Log in to MyCase directly to verify or make changes.

Managing Your Connection

To disconnect Claude from MyCase, follow these steps.

From Claude:

  1. Click the Marketplace icon in the sidebar.

  2. Find MyCase under Installed Connectors.

  3. Click Disconnect.

This will immediately remove Claude's access to your firm data.

For firm administrators

Administrators can view and revoke the MyCase MCP connection for all staff from the Claude organization settings under Organization Settings → Connectors. Administrators may also update firm-level controls within these settings, including which types of skills can be used in Claude. Claude never stores your firm's MyCase password, and each team member's access is tied to their own credentials.

Troubleshooting

I don't see MyCase in the Marketplace. Make sure you're on the latest version of Claude. Go to Help → Check for Updates, then search for MyCase again.

"Authorization failed" when connecting. Make sure you're already logged in to MyCase in your browser before starting. If it still fails, clear your browser cookies and repeat the steps from the beginning.

Claude says it can't find my data. Go to the Marketplace icon in Claude and confirm MyCase shows as Connected. If it shows as disconnected, reconnect by repeating the steps in Part 1.

Claude returned information that doesn't look right. Claude reads directly from MyCase in real time. If the information looks off, log in to MyCase to verify — what Claude shows reflects exactly what's in your account.

Technical Specifications

Frequently Asked Questions

How safe is my data?

We know how critical security is for law firms, and our connector was built with that standard in mind. Claude only shows each user what they're already allowed to see in MyCase and it can't expand anyone's access.

  • MyCase encrypts all data in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher — the modern successor to SSL and the same encryption standard used by banks — and data stored in MyCase is encrypted at rest with 256-bit AES encryption

  • As for data security while using Claude, Claude Teams and Enterprise plans keep client data confidential and don't use data to train models by default, which is why we require these plans for firms using our Claude connector. Additional data security information can be found in Anthropic’s Trust Center.

I don’t have a Team account but I do have a Pro account, and I can adjust the settings so my data isn’t used to train Claude; can I use the MCP connector with that setup?

Pro accounts don't carry a confidentiality obligation in their terms of service, where Team and Enterprise do. Without a confidentiality commitment from Anthropic, client data run through Pro isn't protected the way it needs to be for privilege and work-product purposes, regardless of which settings are toggled on.

That's why MyCase MCP is only available on Team and Enterprise plans. It's also worth noting Anthropic itself positions Pro as an individual plan, not one built for organizational or business use.
