What is 8am IQ and how does it work?
8am IQ securely incorporates artificial intelligence into your daily workflows and is purpose-built for legal practice management.

How do you keep my data secure?
As your trusted legal technology platform handling sensitive case and financial data, we are deeply committed to maintaining the security and privacy of your data. Managing privileged case information for thousands of attorneys (and their clients) is a responsibility we take very seriously. We understand that you, as a legal professional, want to ensure that any AI tool you use adheres to stringent industry-standard security and confidentiality protocols.
The 8am MyCase platform has extensive safeguards in place so that your confidential data is not exposed to another 8am MyCase customer. These safeguards extend to 8am IQ.
8am IQ also adheres to user permissions so that it can only be used on data that the user can already access. This means that a user can only use data with 8am IQ if they already have permission to access that data.

What steps does 8am IQ take to minimize inaccurate outputs?
8am IQ utilizes a robust set of proprietary evaluation metrics to measure and monitor accuracy and hallucination detection. We also utilize several pre-configured prompts that are customized for specific tasks to increase the likelihood of accurate responses. Even with these steps, the outputs from 8am IQ may sometimes be inaccurate, and we recommend that you carefully review all output prior to any use or reliance on it.
As we add additional features to 8am IQ, we will continue to make investments in developing and testing 8am IQ to be less susceptible to inaccurate responses or hallucinations than other generalized GenAI interfaces that lack legal domain expertise, like ChatGPT.
Will my data be used to train any models?
Based on our terms with third party providers, our customers’ data will not be used to train any third-party models.
Our 8am IQ offerings do not train third-party AI models, but we may use inputs and outputs to develop and improve our products in accordance with our Privacy Policy and the security standards described above (How do you keep my data secure?). Artificial intelligence is a rapidly evolving technology. As your trusted legal technology partner, we are committed to responsibly navigating the innovation landscape. We deeply respect your customer data, and will always operate within the scope of our Privacy Policy.
Does 8am IQ respect existing permissions?
Yes, 8am IQ honors existing permissions such that a user will not be able to use 8am IQ for any items within MyCase that they cannot already access. Learn more about user permissions.
Are there limits on the number of times I can use 8am IQ?
The only usage limits for 8am IQ are the page limits applicable to 8am IQ Discovery Assistant. There are currently no limits for any other 8am IQ or AI features. In the future, there may be volume or frequency limits and/or additional charges.
Can 8am IQ read all of my documents?
8am IQ can read text-based case documents as well as scanned PDFs, and image files in PNG, JPG and TIFF formats.
8am IQ’s Discovery Assistant automatically transforms scanned PDFs and images into searchable data for you, with no additional tools or manual steps required on your part .
Can I disable 8am IQ for my firm?
Discovery Assistant is a built-in, automated, image-to-text OCR capability available in the 8am MyCase Advanced tier. To turn off 8am IQ Discovery Assistant, 8am MyCase customers in this tier can submit a request to our Support team at [email protected]. Note that it is not possible to reverse the OCR process for active MyCase documents (in eligible formats) that have already been processed.
All other 8am IQ features may be disabled on a firm-wide basis. Admin users who do not wish to allow users to access other 8am IQ features, such as Case Assistant or Writing Assistant, can turn off 8am IQ in Firm Settings.

Uncheck Enabled
Click Save Preferences
Note: This is a firm-wide setting. Disabling 8am IQ revokes access to all 8am IQ features for all users on the account.

How Document Assistant Works
Users click on the 8am IQ button on a document they want summarized.
The selected document is then securely sent to OpenAI, a Large Language Model (LLM) along with a pre-configured prompt customized to the task and legal practice management to increase the likelihood of an accurate response.
The LLM produces a summarized output based on the document, which is then securely sent back to MyCase.
MyCase then displays the summary to the user in a pre-configured format.
How Writing Assistant Works
When entering text into a 8am IQ enabled text box, a user will be able to ask 8am IQ to perform a variety of text editing actions by clicking the 8am IQ button. Actions will include improving writing, changing tone, translating, and more.
The text entered into the text box, is then securely sent to the LLM along with a pre-configured prompt customized to the task to increase the likelihood of an accurate response.
The LLM produces an output based on the text and prompt, which is then securely sent back to MyCase.
MyCase displays the LLM’s output to the user, allowing them to use or discard the new modified body of text.
How Case Assistant Works
When you first use the 8am IQ case assistant, the system converts case documents into a specialized database. This process allows the Large Language Model (LLM) to quickly find and retrieve information.
The 8am IQ case assistant operates through a "sparkle button" in the side panel when you are viewing a case. Click the 8am IQ icon to open the panel, then select a prompt or type your question regarding the case and submit it.
Once IQ responds, you can copy the summary, regenerate the chat, provide feedback (thumbs up/down), save the response as a document, or start a new chat.
How Discovery Assistant Works
Users upload scanned PDFs or image files in PNG, JPG, or TIFF file formats to a case
Using computer vision and machine learning (image-to-text OCR), Discovery Assistant automatically transforms these unreadable documents into searchable, actionable text with no extra steps or additional tools required.
Processing occurs automatically and does not require individual user action.
